托尔金（J.R.R.Tolkien），英国文学家，生于1892年1月3日，1915年牛津大学毕业，专研盎格鲁撒克逊（Anglo-Saxon）历史和语言。1925年回牛津担任教授，时年33岁，是牛津有时以来年轻的教授。同时，他也展开一系列神话故事的创作。脍炙人口的有《魔戒前传－哈比人历险记》（The Hobbit or There and Back Again）和《魔戒》（The Lord of the Rings）这两部震硕古今的奇幻小说。 此两部巨作被誉为近代所有奇幻作品的鼻祖，影响深远。
